Self-defense is a universally recognized human right. The concept of self-defense must go beyond the concept of weapons or fighting and reach towards intellectual empowerment. POC in the US live under terrorism, and feel that they can be attacked at any time. Libraries need to provide their communities with intellectual material for self-defense. Libraries should be helping their communities create leaders by providing materials and training for intellectual debate and argument. Libraries need to be leaders in civic discussion and teachers in civic debate and etiquette. Libraries can do this because hey are already information diffusers in their communities.
